Today, the word “artisanal” is everywhere, yet true artisan bread—made by hand, in small batches, using time-honored methods has become increasingly rare.

Many claim to sell sourdough bread, but it isn’t genuine. Fillers like sour salt or vinegar are often used to mimic the tangy flavor, along with commercial leavening agents and sometimes without any sourdough starter at all. Though marketed and priced as authentic sourdough, what you really get is ordinary bread dressed up to taste like the real thing.

True sourdough bread is made with just four simple ingredients: flour, water, salt, and a starter (or culture). We choose high-quality ingredients, including King Arthur flour, to ensure every loaf delivers exceptional flavor and consistency. The traditional sourdough process relies on wild yeast naturally present in the environment to slowly ferment and leaven the dough over time. This long fermentation develops incredible flavor and offers benefits such as easier digestion and reduced gluten content.

The entire process takes three days, including an extended refrigerated fermentation and leavening period.

You can also sign up for reminders when on my hotplate website. Original sourdough bread will be available every week with special artisan loafs cycling weekly.
